Mercedes' decision could have an impact on the entire Formula 1. Next year, the contracts of twelve of the 20 drivers in the premier class of motorsport will expire. There could be a big backlash in Formula 1 next winter. It should be clear within the paddock that the trigger for this will most likely be Mercedes.
