It was the first medal by a Norwegian woman in the Olympic alpine races since Laila Schou Nilsen in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936. She achieved her four World Cup victories in the downhill, in the super-G (two) and in the giantslalom, with a total of 14 podium places.
