A man was killed and another injured in a knife attack in Bordeaux on Wednesday. The public prosecutor confirmed that alcohol was at the origin of the attack.

At this stage, "no element" attests to a terrorist attack, reports the prosecutor. The perpetrator of the stabbings is a man of Afghan origin, aged 25. Two investigations were opened by the prosecution. The first targets the assailant, for the counts of “murder’, “attempted murder” and “violence with a weapon’. The second investigation targets the police officer responsible for the fatal shooting against the assailant. On this point, self-defense is "considered", since testimonies attest that the usual summons were carried out by the police, and that the officer who fired the shot "fired while the assailant was facing”, his arm outstretched, equipped with aWeapon. The two victims are two men from the same village in Algeria, one being homeless, the other hosted by France Terre d'Asile.
