A man attacked two people with a knife, killing one of them and seriously injuring the other, on the banks of the Garonne, in the center of Bordeaux (Gironde), shortly before 8 p.m. The man was spotted by the police as he tried to flee, and shot dead by thePolice using a submachine gun.

“The terrorist trail now seems to have been completely ruled out,” a police source told AFP. A major security system has been deployed in the busy area, near the famous Miroir d'eau on the river quays. The victims are of Algerian nationality; the deceased person is around 30 years old, the injured person is about 20 years old. There is “no more concern” regarding his vital prognosis, according to police sources. The identity of the attacker is not yet known, says a source close to the investigation without being able to provide more details. The judicial investigation is underway.
