Stellantis is experiencing difficulties in producing and selling electric cars in Italy. The reasons, according to an article in the Financial Times, are multiple, and are to be found not only in the choices made by the company, but also in those adopted by the country.

Italy and Fiat were late to the electric vehicle market, and the auto industry was slower than in other countries to shift component production from internal combustion engines to electric ones. Recharging batteries takes a long time and is expensive, given that the price of electricity in Italy is the third highest in the world.
