The animal injured five people in the center of the tourist town of Liptovsky Mikulas. Bear attacks are on the rise in the central European country, with 20 incidents recorded last year compared to just eight in 2021.

Bratislava adopted a bill aimed at combating bear attacks in urban areas, establishing a security perimeter 500 meters from their entrance in which any bear that enters could be shot. In March, a woman from Belarus died following another bear attack in the same district of the town.
