Increases in fines for cell phone driving reduced. In the new Highway Code, fines for those who use cell phones while driving will range from a minimum of 250 euros to a maximum of 1,000 euros.

This is provided for by one of the amendments approved in the Chamber's Transport Committee. The text, first signed by Maurizio Lupi, decreases the amount originally foreseen by the Code reform bill. The clampdown on repeat offenders is also loosened: the fine goes from a range of between 644 and 2,588 euros to 350 to 1,400 euros.
