An isolated volcano located in northern Indonesia erupted again on Friday. Eruptions forced the evacuation of several thousand inhabitants of an island neighboring the crater.

Authorities said the Ruang had started to calm down on Friday, but they maintained the highest alert level (4 out of 4), synonymous with high volcanic activity. A six-kilometer exclusion zone has been demarcated around the volcano. Tsunamis are still possible if the volcano's rocks collapse into the sea. In 2018, a violent eruption of Anak Krakatoa, located between the main islands of Java and Sumatra, caused the collapse of entire sections of the crater into the ocean and generated a tsunami responsible for more than 400 deaths and thousands of people wounded.
