A man stabbed two people, near the Miroir d'eau, a popular place for walks on the banks of the Garonne in the center of Bordeaux. He killed a 37-year-old man, of Algerian nationality, and injured a second person, also Algerian.

While attempting to attack the police, one of the officers fired three shots from an HK G36 submachine gun. Hit twice in the chest and once in the wrist, the assailant died from his injuries. At this stage, the man has still not been identified, according to our information. Two investigations have been opened: one by the Bordeux public prosecutor's office, the other by the General Inspectorate of the National Police. The public prosecutor is due to hold a press conference this Thursday, late in the afternoon. The terrorist trail was "completely ruled out", a police source indicated on Wednesday evening, adding that there had been "no a priori Islamist remarks made by the author ".
