Stabbing attack occurred at Westfield Bondi Junction shopping center in Sydney. Five people died at the scene and one died in hospital, police said.

A nine-month-old baby was among the injured. The motive for the attack is not yet known, but authorities have said that the “terrorist’ trail cannot be ruled out at this stage. The tragedy occurred in a large shopping complex that was crowded with customers. According to eyewitnesses, a man armed with a knife attacked people “randomly”, causing chaos. The attack also left several injured, eight of whom, including the baby, were taken to hospital. The mother, a 38-year-old woman, is still hospitalized, according to Australian media, and her baby is also injured. She was taken into a store to shelter them and called for help, two brothers told 9News Sydney. “We were just shopping, we saw a man running towards a woman and her child (…) The mother was stabbed and she came with the baby and threw him in my arms,” said one of the two men.
