Nearly 8 tonnes of contraband cigarettes seized in Rennes. 7.6 tonnes of counterfeit tobacco took place during the check of a heavy goods vehicle.
The driver, 42, of Romanian nationality, was referred to the Rennes public prosecutor's office. He was placed in pre-trial detention and charged with smuggling, criminal association and aggravated money laundering, according to a press release from the public prosecutor’s office. The discovery was made during a check on a vehicle registered in Romania, the press release said.
