Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko breaks the world record for time spent in space. The commander of the Roscosmos Cosmonaut team spent more than 878 days in space (or almost two and a half years), during his five space missions.

On September 15, he left for his fifth mission in space, and at the end of this, he should exceed the mark of 1000 days spent inspace. “I fly into space to do what I love, not to set records. I have dreamed and aspired to become a cosmonauts since I was a child,” he said.
