Volkswagen Golf has just turned 50 - World Motors. The compact car, successor to the Beetle, would become Volkswagen's most successful car and the best-selling European car of all time.

To date, more than 20 million Golfs have been built in Wolfsburg alone. The most important moment in the history of the Golf, according to Volkswagen, was the transition from the Golf I to the Golf II, modernized but leaving the DNA of the first generation intact. The Golf has now reached its eighth generation, including technology, design and plug-in hybrid powertrains.
