For several years Beatrice Herbold was the lover of Helmut Kohl (CDU). Now a book about the real estate agent's liaison with the former chancellor appears. In an interview with the magazine "Bunte" the 61-year-old talked about her getting to know each other - in which apparently a special connection arose: "When I first looked Helmut Kohl in the eye, we recognized each other in our deepest interior", she said.
Herbold had publicized her relationship with Kohl 2016 in the "Bunte". At that time she also told where the fateful encounter took place: in 1990 in the sauna of an Austrian hotel. "There was a soulmate right between us," she said. Kohl later assured her that he had felt the same way. After the stay there they remained in writing in contact. The liaison of the two lasted according to the then report from 1995 to 1999.

The former chancellor had already influenced her life before her first meeting, says Herbold: "He spoiled my wedding night, so to speak." After the wedding, she and her then partner wanted to eat in a restaurant where Kohl was supposed to come: "My husband really wanted to wait for him," she said. "In the end, we missed him by five minutes, but meanwhile the bridal suite we had booked was forgiven." She spent the night "with an angry husband and in a narrow bed".
When she later met Kohl, Herbold was still married - her marriage was no longer happy, she told the magazine.
Helmut Kohl was married to Hannelore Kohl from 1960 until her death in 2001. He entered his second marriage with Maike Kohl-Richter in 2008. Kohl died in 2017.
