Hardly any work equipment is a member of the Federal Police as closely as on the service weapon - you should think. However, that does not always seem to be the case. Eleven service weapons of the Federal Police are currently recorded as stolen or lost according to a media report.
This is loud "New Osnabrück newspaper" (Thursday) from the response of the federal government to a request from the FDP parliamentary group out.
"Currently ten service weapons of the Federal Police (with the corresponding official ammunition 9 x 19 mm) registered as stolen," the newspaper quoted from the answer. These are pistols. Another service weapon had disappeared before handing over to the federal police at the manufacturer.
"Any stolen or lost police weapon is one too many, and even a weapon can cause significant damage, especially if it gets lost with its ammunition," said Konstantin Kuhle, FDP domestic spokesman, the newspaper.
Trouble for police in Celle after loss of submachine gun
Similar cases occur again and again: at the beginning of August it became known that since March in Celle, Lower Saxony, a service weapon of the police is missing. It is a submachine gun of the type MP5 of the manufacturer Heckler & Koch.
After the disappearance of the submachine gun, disciplinary proceedings were instituted against eight officials, according to a media report. This was reported by the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung", citing the Ministry of the Interior in Hanover. The outcome of the internal employment investigations was still open, it said.
Despite extensive search in the entire area of the police department Lüneburg had failed to recover the weapon. For criticism of the opposition in the Lower Saxony state parliament ensured that the loss internally had apparently been reported only with delay to higher departments.
