Spain: Stierhatz - Bull kills spectators

In a bull fight in Cuéllar in the Spanish province of Segovia, a spectator has been fatally injured by a bull. The casualty had been severely wounded on the chest and neck by several bursts of bones, so it had no chance of survival, quoted the local portal "El Día de Segovia" Mayor Carlos Fraile.

The man was only a spectator and did not participate in the bull-busting, they said. On videos distributed on the Internet, one could see how the bull suddenly erupted and stormed into the audience. On the age of the man there are different data: According to the news agency dpa he is 61, according to the agency AFP 62 years old.

With posters and megaphones visitors were previously warned that the place where the disaster occurred, dangerous and not suitable for spectators. Four years ago, a man had been killed there by a bull.

In Spain, traditional bullfighting is popular - despite protests from animal rights activists. The participants run in a kind of test of courage before the bulls, which are driven into an arena. The most famous of these festivals takes place every year in Pamplona. "Sanfermines" attracts audiences from all over the world in the northern Spanish city.

A total of 35 people were hospitalized in eight bull-hounds this year, and several were operated on. In Pamplona in 2009 there was the last fatality.
