Casper and Marteria after accident at concert "deeply affected"

At a concert by Casper and Marteria, a LED wall crashed, nearly 30 people were injured. The police are investigating. Now the rappers have addressed a statement to the injured.



Casper and Marteria had their say after an accident at their concert in Essen. "We are deeply affected and wish all injured a speedy recovery, we think of you!" Wrote the rapper on Instagram.

At a performance by the two musicians at Essen's Baldeneysee, a storm had broken out on Saturday evening. According to the concert agency Four Artists, a four-by-eight meter LED screen on the left edge of the stage plunged into the audience.

We are in close exchange with all parties and hope that all injured people will recover quickly. We are also looking for ways to catch up on the concert, but the most important thing now is first the health of those affected.

Holger Walterscheid, operator of the concert location, said: "The whole thing took a minute, but I have not experienced anything like that in 15 years, because we know every weather here on the lake shore." The event with about 20,000 guests was canceled, the area vacated. Police and rescue workers were on duty for hours.

Wind speeds up to 75 kilometers per hour

Shortly before, the concert had been released in consultation with the coordinator of the security concept, Walterscheid said. The crisis team constantly monitored the weather. The storm was according to German Weather Service (DWD) pulled shortly after 21 clock over parts of the Ruhr. There were wind speeds of up to 75 kilometers per hour. Previously, the DWD had warned against level 2 storms.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear, the criminal investigation determined. 28 people were injured in the accident, two of them seriously. No one is in mortal danger anymore, police say.

The concert had been canceled, the area evacuated. The concert visitors could leave the venue with shuttle buses. "We thank all fans on site for their understanding of the demolition and their helpfulness," Casper and Marteria wrote. They are looking for ways to catch up on the concert, "but the most important thing now is first of all the health of those affected."
