Transmission tower in Hesse: Three workers fall 50 meters into the depth

Three men crashed in Hesse with a work gondola. Cause was obviously a technical defect in the winch.



The police have reported a possible cause of the accident after a fatal crash on a mast. The investigation has revealed that there may have been a technical fault with the winch. Previously, the Hessischer Rundfunk reported on it.

The three workers were to build a new antenna on a 220 meter high mast of the plant on the Hoher Meissner near the small town of Hessian Lichtenau. They drove loudly police with a maintenance cabin on the mast. This cabin is similar to a cable car and ride up on a steel cable anchored in the ground.

At a height of 50 meters it came to complications. The cabin should have hung free swinging on the rope and then crashed to the ground. The three men in the gondola died.

In operation since 1955

The transmission system at the Hoher Meissner was put into operation according to HR 1955 and consists of several masts. HR broadcasts its television and radio program. The accident occurred at the highest of the three transmission towers.

The HR said that the deaths of the three workers had been received with dismay. One is in thoughts with the relatives, several colleagues are on the way to the place of misfortune.
