Several officials of the prison Sehnde in Lower Saxony are accused of having introduced or helped to bring drugs and mobile phones into the prison. This was announced by a spokesman for the public prosecutor's office in Hanover.
The authority therefore investigates allegations of bribery against four employees. In addition, 21 prisoners and six others were suspected of bribery and drug trafficking.
On Sunday, prison cells and workrooms and ten private homes were searched by defendants. 200 police officers, including Special Forces forces, were deployed.
"It's an extraordinary case," the spokesman said. In twelve detention rooms suspected drugs and extenders have been discovered. In addition, 45 mobile phones, 70 data carriers and numerous SIM cards were confiscated outside the prison. The evaluation of the data is now on.
The impetus for the investigation had come from the institution, said a spokesman for the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice. The investigation was still in the beginning. The four accused JVA officials were suspended from the service.
