Rapper: Nicki Minaj proclaims alleged end to her career

The rapper Nicki Minaj has completely unexpectedly announced the end of her musical career. "I've decided to retire," tweeted the 36-year-old. She now wants to focus on family life, writes Minaj.

The rapper is engaged to music industry Kenneth Petty. She said recently that the wedding is imminent in the coming months. Commenting on her retreat from the rap career, Minaj ironically hinted to her fans, "I know you guys are happy now."

How seriously their resignation is meant, however, remains to be seen. Only in June had Minaj said she was working on her fifth studio album.

Coming from the Caribbean island of Trinidad, Minaj is considered one of the most successful rap and hip-hop musicians in the world. She has sold more than five million albums worldwide. Her biggest hits include "Super Bass", "Starships", "Anaconda" and "Bang Bang". She polarises with often provocative and obscene lyrics, she also loves flashy outfits with brightly colored wigs.
