In 1998, a 17-year-old in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is said to have raped a girl. The man from former Yugoslavia is said to have sexually abused the 13-year-old in her parents' home. According to the authorities, he was widely related to the victim.
The suspect fled after the crime - the state police searched for him since Europe. At the end of August, the man was arrested by border guards while trying to travel from Serbia to Hungary. They had become aware of the existing European arrest warrant at the passport control, said the State Criminal Police Office and the public prosecutor's office in Stralsund. The prosecution had repeatedly extended the European arrest warrant over the years.
After being arrested on the Serbian-Hungarian border, the man was brought to Germany on 6 September. Here he is now waiting for his trial in a penitentiary in the country.
