Instead of 1000 dollars was suddenly a hundredfold in the account: For a US couple was the occasion for a shopping trip. Now the bank has noticed her mistake. But the money is virtually gone.

It sounded a bit too good to be true. And it was in the end too: Suddenly, the otherwise manageable bank account of a married couple in the US was packed. Specifically, 120,000 US dollars (about 108,000 euros) were received. However, the two did not expect such a sum. It was obviously a mistake of her bank.

Instead, however, to report this oversight and return the money (grudgingly), the couple went shopping from the state of Pennsylvania. But really. Among other things, they treated themselves to a new off-road vehicle, a camper and even an unspecified racing car, as the US station CNN describes.

When the bank finally noticed the mistake of 31st May and wanted their money back, only $ 13,000 remained. Now the two are charged with theft. They had admitted to the authorities that, of course, they also assumed a booking error. But she did not stop that from shopping.

In a first interview with the bank, the wife explained that her husband had already used most of the money "to pay bills". But she will sit down with her husband and work out a plan for repayment. After this conversation, the couple was no longer available for the bank. The money house turned on the authorities.

Usually $ 1,000, now suddenly $ 120,000

"We have probably given bad advice," said the husband on the sidelines of a court on Monday. There he and his wife were able to comment on the allegations for the first time. Normally, the balance should have moved around 1000 US dollars.

From the bank concerned it was merely said that probably an account number was entered incorrectly. However, they did not want to comment on the further course of the proceedings.

In addition to the achievements already described, the couple had, according to CNN their unexpected small fortune but also used for comparative altruistic purposes. The two said they had distributed around $ 15,000 to friends who were "in financial worries."
