Brand in Dusseldorf clinic: investigators are based on negligent arson

A fire in a clinic in Dusseldorf led to the death of a patient on late Monday evening. The 77-year-old died of smoke poisoning. 19 more people were injured.

Fire experts and investigators currently rule out a technical defect as the cause. The authorities found on suspicion of negligent arson, it said in a press release the police.

Suspect is an 83-year-old, severely demented man, who was housed in the room in which the fire broke out. The man was injured. The fatality was another room according to the police.

Due to his general state of health, the 83-year-old can not be questioned, the police said. The investigation continues.
