A fire broke out in a biogas plant in Leonberg-Warmbronn in the Böblingen district. At two o'clock in the morning of Wednesday, the fire was discovered. According to newspaper reports, the flames were already meter high. Guest tanks and silos should have partially exploded. But it should be no harmful gases leaked.
No one was injured in the fire. But the facility near Highway 8 was beyond salvage, police said early Wednesday morning. The extinguishing work would continue for hours. The damage is therefore in the seven-digit range. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
The fermentation plant Leonberg is operated by the waste management companies of the district Böblingen. It is ten years old and processes 35,000 tonnes of biowaste to gas every year.
