Anselm Kiefer's works of art seem to be in great demand among thieves: the sculptor and painter was once again the victim of a burglary in his studio near Paris. That is what the police said. But the burglars were not interested in one of his popular works of art, but in their components. They damaged a work in the form of a book to steal the lead contained in it.
When they disassembled its pages, they were caught by a guard of the artist, police said. It probably was not an organized gang that knew the value of the work of art.
Kiefer was repeatedly victim of Bleidieben in France: In August 2016, invaders destroyed 1.5 million euros expensive artwork in his workshop. And more than a decade ago, thieves stole dozens of his lead sculptures. The work was then found in poor condition.
