Indulgence training: more feasting

The targeted selection of food, the preparation and cooking of food help to make the meal more aware and alert. This week we will give you a to-do list for more enjoyment in everyday life.

SPIEGEL WISSEN has developed a nine-week enjoyment coaching program that will help you learn to eat more and maintain your weight. This is the fifth part. The other parts can be found here.

A sensual relationship with food begins even before the actual meal. Cooking, tasting and choosing different ingredients or the interest in the origin of the products can increase the enjoyment and appreciation of the food.

So this week, you'll receive a list of suggestions on how to change your eating, cooking and shopping habits so that you reflect and consciously manage your diet and eat more than devour food.

To-do list for connoisseurs

Read all the suggestions first and then pick the two that suit you or fit you best with your everyday life:

  • Go to the market, taste different varieties of apples, grapes or tomatoes and opt for the ones that taste the best.
  • Look at a cookbook, pick a simple dish, prepare it. Cover the table nicely - whether you are alone or eating with others.
  • Buy three different kinds of nuts and try them at home, only a few at a time - and decide which ones are the best.
  • Invite friends to dinner, cover the table with good crockery and cutlery - and enjoy together.
  • Where does the meat, the fish, the potato come from? Research on the origin of your food - choose regional food or organic food for a week, if possible.
  • Go to a restaurant and order - again - a favorite dish. Eat it slowly and with pleasure.
  • Prepare a fruit salad and make sure it contains three of your favorite fruits.
  • Drive to a farm and shop in the farm shop.
  • Prepare a fantasy salad - possibly with other family members - with three favorite vegetables or favorite ingredients.
  • Buy three different types of chocolate and try two pieces of each. Judge: Which tastes best?

Have you picked out two of the exercises? Well. Then try both out this week. Reflect and watch yourself: How did you feel? What was pleasant and what less? And how has eating behavior changed in general? Also, consider whether you want to permanently establish one of the suggestions in your everyday life, such as to buy vegetables at the market instead of in the supermarket.

Important: There are people who are pronounced Schlemmer and indulgence people and still fight with the pounds or hypertension or imminent diabetes. Anyone who is in this situation may be under-challenged during the exercise this week, because the enjoyable handling of food is often part of everyday life.

If you belong to this group of people, you may find it hard to believe that enjoyment can be the key to a meaningful and healthy diet. But just because food and feasting may take a little too much space in your life does not mean that enjoyment is wrong in itself. For you this week, an alternative exercise makes sense: Remember to really enjoy the food during meals, because you can do well. Also, try to observe yourself more closely about your eating habits :

  • When and where do you eat more than you like?
  • Where do you forget yourself?
  • Which emotional situations are the trigger for the grip on "something edible" or something especially "good"?

Try to observe this way every day during this week. If this is difficult for you, keep a journal or journal for a few minutes daily. If you realize that emotional and uncontrolled food is an issue for you, the tasks of the two coming weeks could be especially helpful for you.
