Troubles around accident: The boar, which was supposedly a beaver

2019-09-13T15:22:35.557Z

A big hamster? A boar? Or a beaver? In an accident in Bavaria, police and car drivers disagree on what kind of animal it might have been. A clarification attempt.

In Bavaria, an already curious wildlife accident takes a bizarre turn: A "big hamster" who struck on Monday at night, who according to the police was a wild boar, could in fact have been a beaver in the end. At least that's what the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.

The police had initially reported that a taxi driver had approached his "a big hamster with very large teeth." He would never have thought that seriously, the man said. And a boar, as the police had shown, was not.

He even gave the newspaper a proof of the dead animal on the roadside - and that shows a beaver. How is this explained?

Four ways, what could have happened:

Possibility Number 1

  • The taxi driver was allowed a joke or was perhaps not as sober as accepted by the police. The incident prompted the presidium in any case to publish on his Facebook page a photo collage of a hamster and a wild boar. Nice, if you can make fun of the hard job.

The taxi driver, however, now defended himself against the charge of a lack of basic biology. But the police initially stayed with their version: "The officials have found a wild boar on the spot," said a spokesman for the police Oberbayern North the SPIEGEL in the morning.

Option 2

  • According to "Süddeutsche Zeitung" it is unclear whether police and taxi drivers were ever at the scene of the accident at the same time. However, the officials had asked the taxi driver to come to the station. Perhaps the confusion was simply due to a misunderstanding about the scene of the accident: did the investigators elsewhere find a stalked boar? The police think this is possible but unlikely. "I assume that the colleagues were at the right scene of the accident," the spokesman said.

Option 3

  • In the forests of Upper Bavaria runs a mythical creature, a boar-beaver cross, which coincidentally bears much resemblance to a hamster. Well, we do not believe that ourselves, but four options are more beautiful than three.

Possibility 4 (... and probably the resolution)

  • The head of the Bavarian police press office hours later described the course of history, after all, slightly different than his colleagues: The officials were never been on site. They had suspected a collision with a boar at the inspection of the taxi at the guard, he told the SPIEGEL. The taxi driver had contradicted this assumption and reported of a "big hamster". However, the responsible person in charge of the search for the animal could not find the carcass - neither that of a wild boar nor that of a hamster. Therefore, a wild boar was taken as an accident victim in the police report and the taxi driver mocked before he wanted to save his reputation with the photo evidence.
