With 32 nominations, the final season of the fantasy saga "Game of Thrones" has gone into this year's Emmy season - so far, no series has had so many chances to win the award yet.
Last weekend, the first 10 Emmys were already in Los Angeles at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, the awards for technical achievements such as visual effects, scenery, make-up or sound editing. That too is a record.
The documentary "Free Solo" and the drama series "Chernobyl" each received seven trophies. Actors Cherry Jones and Bradley Whitford won a prize for their guest roles in The Handmaid's Tale. Jane Lynch and Luke Kirby were honored for their performances in the comedy series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel".
The TV prizes known in Germany as "Katzentisch-Emmys" are traditionally given a week before the much more important Primetime Emmys. This year's main awards ceremony will be in Los Angeles on September 22nd. Then "Game of Thrones" once again has a good chance of a price rain. Last year, "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" was the big winner of the Emmys with eight awards, and "Game of Thrones" was a big winner at the time.
Overall, the Emmys are awarded in about 120 categories by about 24,000 members of the Television Academy. An overview of all winners and nominees can be found on the Emmys homepage.
