Boris Johnson must be criticized for his comparison of Britain with the muscle-bound cartoon character Hulk: The American actor Mark Ruffalo, who played Hulk in some of the "Avengers" blockbusters, tweeted late Sunday evening: "Boris Johnson forgets that Hulk only fighting for the good of the whole. " The 51-year-old added, "Angry and strong can also be limited and destructive, and Hulk works best when he's in tune with a team, and he's a disaster when he's alone."
The British PM gave an interview to the Mail on Sunday newspaper, stressing that he would find ways to circumvent a recent parliament-passed bill for a Brexit without an agreement with Brussels. "The more angry Hulk gets, the stronger Hulk gets," Johnson said. And: "Hulk has always escaped, no matter how tight he was - and the same goes for this country, we will be leaving on October 31st."
The law against unregulated withdrawal from the EU is to force Johnson to apply for a three-month extension of the Brexit deadline should no agreement with the EU be ratified by 19 October. The application would then have to be approved unanimously by the remaining 27 EU Member States. Johnson has said several times that he will lead Britain out of the EU, even without a deal, on 31 October. This Monday, he meets with European Commission chief Jean-Claude Juncker in Luxembourg to discuss the issue.
For his Hulk comparison Johnson was not only criticized by Ruffalo. The Brexit representative of the European Parliament, Guy Verhofstadt, wrote on Twitter, even for Trump standards, this comparison is childish. "Is this going to intimidate the EU or impress the British people?"
