In Chemnitz, a Libyan wheelchair user was attacked and slightly injured. The suspect is known to the police for criminal offenses. The Department of State Protection investigates in the case.

A 31-year-old wheelchair user from Libya was beaten and racially insulted in Chemnitz by a presumed right-wing extremist. The 22-year-old suspect has pushed the man out of the wheelchair and attacked after first investigations on the night of Sunday. That is what the police said. The exact sequence of events is still being determined. First, the "Bild" newspaper had reported.

According to him, the suspect who was placed near the scene of the crime was known to the police for offenses motivated by right-wing motives and assault charges. He is now being investigated for dangerous assault and insult.

The wheelchair user suffered minor injuries and was treated as an outpatient in a hospital. A witness would have heard the argument and called the police. The department for state protection of the criminal police responsible for politically motivated criminal offenses determines in agreement with the public prosecutor's office.

The police had already reported on the case on Sunday, but without stating that the victim was a wheelchair user from Libya.

The police spokesman said that the investigators had only a clear picture of the deed on Monday. In order to safeguard the personal rights of the victim and the possible psychological stress on the victim, it was examined whether the attack was due to the handicap or because of the origin of the man. The investigators now assume a racist motive.
