The ultra-marathon swimmer Sarah Thomas needed 54 hours for her world record. The 37-year-old American was the first person to swim through the English Channel four times in a row - without a single break.
According to British media, Thomas was still under treatment for breast cancer until a year ago. That's why she dedicated her record on the English coast to "all the survivors out there".
At the crossing, the salt water had plagued her mouth and throat, Thomas reported. In addition, she had had contact with a jellyfish. The hardest was the last crossing from France to Great Britain. "It took forever and the current has driven me off," she said.
As a welcome, there was champagne and chocolate. So far, according to the media, only three swimmers swam through the English Channel without stopping.
