In Amsterdam, a lawyer has been killed in a murder trial against an organized criminal organization. The 44-year-old defense attorney was shot dead at 7.30 am at his apartment in the south of the city, the police said. The perpetrator, who is said to be between 16 and 20 years old, was therefore able to escape on foot.
The lawyer had defended the criminal witness of the indictment in a murder trial. The group, which is considered the country's most serious criminal organization, is said to be responsible for numerous murders in Utrecht and Amsterdam. Their money should have made them mainly with the trade of drugs.
The brother-in-law's brother had already been killed last year. He had nothing to do with the procedure. The now-defamed lawyer had repeatedly accused the authorities of not having done enough for the safety of leniency.
Political and judicial representatives were shocked and spoke of an attack on the rule of law. Prime Minister Mark Rutte expressed his deep concern in the parliament in The Hague.
