Former professional footballer Kelvin Maynard has been killed in Amsterdam. Two men on a motor scooter had opened the fire on the moving car of the 32-year-old, the police said.
The strangers had fled after the fact on Wednesday evening. There is no information about a subject yet. Maynard died shortly after the gunshot wounds.
Maynard had played for the Dutch clubs FC Volendam and FC Emmen. He was also at the Belgian first division FC Antwerp and the English club Burton Albion under contract.
A few hours earlier, a lawyer who had defended the chief witness in a major murder trial against an organized criminal gang had been killed. He too was shot in the street. But the investigators do not assume that there is a reference to the attack on Maynard, said a spokeswoman for the prosecutor.
