A tropical storm has caused heavy rains and heavy floods in parts of the state of Texas. Governor Greg Abbott imposed a state of emergency because of storm "Imelda" in several offshore districts of the state.
Many residents fled their homes and arrived in shelters, many streets were flooded. Most affected were areas around the city of Houston. Local media reported that three people were killed as a result of the floods.
Pictures showed cars that were under water almost to the roof. Rescuers therefore use boats in some places to bring people to safety. "I urge all people in the path of the storm to make the necessary preparations and to respond to warnings from local authorities," Governor Abbott said Thursday.
