A retired couple has outsmarted two con artists in Cologne, posing as police officers. They had it on the phone on the savings of senior citizens.
The couple have seen through the fraud, but the police said. While the 78-year-old wife appeared to respond to the demands of the caller, her 80-year-old man alerted the police from a neighbor's phone.
"Immediately now support real policemen, the two pensioners," the officials said. The 80-year-old twice made his way to the bank to seemingly withdraw cash. Meanwhile, his wife made further phone calls with the wrong policeman.
At the final agreed handover, the real police then attacked. The officers arrested the 40-year-old money collector and his accomplice waiting in the escape car.
