State of emergency proclaimed: tropical storm in the US - several dead

At least five people have lost their lives due to severe flooding in the state of Texas. In the vicinity of the city Houston and in the city of Beaumont in Jefferson County, three men in their cars had been surprised by the water masses and drowned, reported the station NBC, citing the police.

The flooding was caused by tropical storm "Imelda", which had hit parts of Texas with heavy winds and heavy rains. In some places, the water was almost five meters high, it said. Governor Greg Abbott had declared a state of emergency because of the storm on Thursday in several coastal districts of the state.
