A 28-year-old is in Neubrandenburg in court because he is said to have abused his stepdaughter so badly that she died. The man did not say that he was supposed to have been involved in contradictions.

In Neubrandenburg, the murder trial for the violent death of a six-year-old from Torgelow in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern began. The accused stepfather of the girl made on the first day of the trial, no information.

"My client should first get used to the negotiating situation," said his defender Bernd Raitor before the district court Neubrandenburg. He announced that the defendant wanted to await the testimony of other witnesses and the mother of the victim.

The defendant is accused of murder by the omission and mistreatment of Schutzbefohlener in seven cases. The defendant has denied so far.

The man lived with the girl, her younger brother, her mother and a baby together in the apartment in Torgelow. According to the indictment, he is said to have mistreated the six-year-olds since November 2018 five times and not to have obtained medical help in time. "He wanted to cover up the crime," said prosecutor Bernd Bethge.

The girl died on January 12, including severe head injuries. The two-year-old brother is said to have been twice mistreated by the stepfather.

Rescue workers find dead child

The defendant had stated during an arrest that the girl with a doll carriage fell down a 15-step staircase on January 12, said the former detention center judge Daniela Lieschke as a witness. Thereafter, the defendant should have carried the child up. The mother had put it to bed and given him a cold pack because of headaches and nosebleeds. After that, the woman went shopping. Later, according to the defendant, the child "jumped around" again in the apartment. Also against the mother is determined.

Asked why they did not look more closely at the child's head for serious injuries and seek medical help, the defendant said, "These are not my children." This statement fell several times, according to Lieschke. But he said to employees of the youth welfare office that his children would not take him away. Her impression as a detention judge was that the man had always been entangled in contradictions.

According to the indictment, he is said to have shaken his stepdaughter on January 8, kicked and otherwise mistreated. On January 12, he called the emergency services only after the girl vomited. When the doctors came, it should already have been dead. Later, he was diagnosed with severe head injuries, multiple rib fractures, and fractures of the collarbone and thumb.
