A hunter was attacked and killed by a tiger in eastern Russia while searching for pine nuts. He probably accidentally approached the animal when it ate a deer, said the Director-General of the Center Amur-Tiger, Sergei Aramilyev, according to the Agency Ria Nowosti.
The hunter was traveling with his son on a boat in the Khabarovsk area on the border with China. When both went ashore and went through the tall grass, it had come to the attack, said Aramilyev.
The son then shot the Amur tiger - a strictly protected species. The exact background of the incident would still be investigated, it said.
