Investigators have searched his Paris apartment in the case of US entrepreneur and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. This was confirmed by the prosecutor in the French capital.
Even a modeling agency, which had founded a close confidant of Epstein, was searched. The agency refused to comment on AFP. Further information on the state of the investigation did not make the investigators.
Epstein committed suicide in a New York prison on 10 August. He had been accused by the prosecutor of the US metropolis to have abused dozens of underage girls. The businessman had between 2002 and 2005 in New York and Florida built an illegal sex trade ring, it said in the indictment. Some victims came from media reports, also from France.
The Paris Public Prosecutor's Office initiated preliminary investigations at the end of August and launched a witness appeal in mid-September. According to the judiciary, French investigations were directed at possible crimes that could have been committed on French territory, as well as offenses in which victims or perpetrators were French nationals.
Among other things, it is about allegations of rape, the rape of minors and the criminal conspiracy to commit crimes.
