In California, a police officer was on the trail of a suspected criminal. During the chase, however, his Tesla almost ran out of electricity. Colleagues had to take over - without success.

In Fremont, a city in the US state of California, for the first time cars of the electrical manufacturer Tesla are used as police cars. To what extent they are suitable for patrol purposes, will be shown. In a chase near San Francisco, a Tesla Model S was almost out of battery. The chase had to be stopped, as the newspaper "The East Bay Times" and NBC Bay Area report consistently.

According to the car, the authority had bought in March, around 23 clock the prosecution of a suspected car. According to the media, the police officer said while driving via radio that he could drive only about nine kilometers before the battery was empty. A police officer told NBC that the car had not been fully charged before shift start - around 2pm.

Integration of Tesla vehicles still in test phase

Afterwards, the driver asked his colleagues to take over the persecution for him. Non-electronic vehicles continued the chase, but this was not successful. The pursued vehicle was later found - there was no trace of the fugitive. The man is wanted in connection with a crime in Santa Clara.

"This incident in no way changes our confidence in the Tesla models for patrol purposes," said the policeman. For the Tesla it was the second use, so far, the expectations were "fully met".

The police department in Freemont stated that the integration of the Tesla vehicles into the vehicle fleet was still within a six-month test phase. There is still no set scheme for charging. But the directive is that the cars must be at least half charged at the beginning of shift.
