In a small town on the Australian coast, 20 kangaroos appear to have been intentionally overrun - presumably all from one and the same car. The dead animals were discovered in a residential area of the Tura Beach community, the police said.
The investigators suspect that they were all killed in an "act of animal cruelty" in the night of Sunday. According to witness reports, the animals were blinded with a spotlight, so they stopped. After the or the perpetrators still wanted.
A resident said to the dpa, "They drove around and had a spotlight with them, the kangaroos were scared and stood still." Three surviving juveniles, now without parents, are now raised by an animal welfare organization.
In Tura Beach, a community in the south of the country, kangaroos live in the middle of the village. In photos you can see dead animals lying on lawns in front of the houses.
