The American opera legend Jessye Norman is dead. The singer died at the age of 74, as her family reported on Monday. Norman died at around eight in the morning in a hospital in New York, the news agency AP quoted from the family's letter. She was surrounded by her loved ones.
"We are so proud of Jessye's musical achievements and the inspiration she has delivered to audiences around the world," the statement said. This will continue to be a source of joy. Just as proud of her humanitarian commitment: Jessye has dealt with topics such as hunger, homelessness, youth development and arts and cultural education, among others.

Jessye was born on September 15, 1945 in Augusta, Georgia. Even as a young girl she sang in the church, later she studied music. Her opera debut was in 1969 in Berlin. Throughout her career, Jessye has won numerous prestigious awards, including four Grammys - one of them for her life's work.
In 2015, Jessye suffered a spinal cord injury. However, there were complications that now she died according to her family.
