Lightning strike in Hertha plane: "There was a big bang"


A football professional described his fear, the team manager spoke of a "huge beam of light": The charter machine of the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC has come in a heavy storm - but landed safely.

"There was a big bang, it really crashed, and a huge beam of light flashed up that everyone could see," said Manager Michael Preetz of the "Bild" newspaper.

"That was a funny moment, the shock has gone into everyone's limbs," said Preetz. The team of the capital club flew on Sunday evening by a strong thunderstorm to the airport Schoenefeld. "Both pilots have brought the machine but wonderful and safe to Berlin," said Preetz.

"I saw the lightning, I was scared, I've never experienced anything like that," said professional football player Javairo Dilrosun. Hertha BSC had organized the small charter plane, as there had been no late scheduled flight back to the capital on Sunday.

On board the machine Dornier 328 were besides Preetz, President Werner Gegenbauer and 20 players and the coaching and functional team of the club.
