The city of Mülheim an der Ruhr has called on the family of the main suspect in the case of a suspected gang rape to leave for Bulgaria. If they do not go voluntarily, they could be expelled, said city spokesman Volker Wiebels.
The 14-year-old is said to have raped a young woman on 5 July in a Mülheim forest. Two other 14-year-olds as well as two punishable boys were also involved in the crime.
The city initiated a procedure to restrict the free movement of its main suspects, as it applies to EU citizens. She was the only one of the affected families who could not prove that she had her own income. According to Wiebels, EU citizens are obliged to do so no later than five years after their arrival. The income, however, should not be enough to make a living, a mini-job is sufficient.
According to Wiebels, the father of the suspect submitted a contract of employment, but did not take the job. Therefore, this has not become effective. A hearing period had let the family pass without reaction. She now has four weeks to sue the decision, said Wiebels.
Reported in Mülheim
Then the expulsion takes place. It refers to all family members. An adult daughter had left Germany, according to the city weeks ago with her child. The other family members are still registered in Mülheim.
It is unclear whether the 14-year-old has to leave with his family. Since he is in custody, the prosecution must decide on it, said Wiebels. The authority was previously not available for information.
