This case from the state of Texas had caused a sensation in September of last year and led to protests against the police: A white policewoman penetrates into the apartment of her black neighbor - and shoots the unarmed 26-year-olds. Now, juries in Dallas have convicted the now-released policewoman of the murder, as the local newspaper Dallas Morning News reported.
The sentence should therefore be determined shortly. The 31-year-old woman faces a long or even life imprisonment.
The former policewoman had stated that when she arrived home after a long shift, she mistakenly thought she had entered her own apartment. She thought the man was an intruder, she argued. The victim was reportedly sitting in his apartment on the couch watching TV.
A victim's lawyer, Lee Merritt, told The Washington Post that the verdict was a "victory for black people in America" and an important break. "Policemen will be held accountable for their actions in the future."
