Forces have found two dead in a flat in Essen after a suspected explosion. Three other people were taken out of the building unhurt in the early evening, a police spokeswoman said.
There were windows cracked and smoke rose, but it did not burn. The house near the central station is uninhabitable. It is located in a street with several houses.
According to the spokeswoman, witnesses heard a detonation at 5:15 pm. The cause is still unclear. In addition to numerous rescue workers, the police are on duty and have taken over the investigation. Further information about the victims did not make the spokeswoman.
