Because of the allegation of rape, the French judiciary again investigates the director and producer Luc Besson ("The fifth element"). Despite the prosecution's appeal, the case will be re-examined, attorney Francis Szpiner, representing actress Sand Van Roy, said Friday on Twitter.
Malgré l'opposition du parquet, l'affaire Besson fait désormais l'objet d'une instruction. #Justice
- Francis Szpiner (@fszpiner) October 4, 2019The prosecutor had stopped the investigation in February, as investigations had allegations not substantiated. Sand Van Roy had reported the 60-year-old for multiple rape. He had drugged and raped her in Paris during a meeting at the hotel, the actress said.
However, a police investigation did not find any traces of a chemical substance in Van Roy's blood. Besson said the statement, according to his lawyer at that time as "allegations from the realm of fantasy". He had always rejected all accusations.
The lawyer's attorney went directly to the prosecutor's office after the cessation of the investigation, accusing her of exceeding her competencies in assessing the allegations.
According to the online newspaper "Médiapart", Besson even accused nine other women in the investigation of being sexually assaulted and behaving inappropriately, including a former employee.
A judge has now decided to reopen the case, Van Roy wrote on Twitter. According to "Mediapart" Besson, like Harvey Weinstein, often arranged meetings in hotels.
Besson's lawyer now said that it was "good hope" that the investigation would come to the same conclusion again, he told the news agency AFP.
Luc Besson became internationally known among other things with "in the intoxication of the depth" of 1988 and "Léon - the professional" from 1994. He has received several awards for his directorial work. In 2017 he shot the comic book adaptation "Valerian - The City of a Thousand Planets". Most recently, an action film about the double agent "Anna" appeared in the cinema.
