Christina Aguilera was five years old when her personal horror ended. Her mother fled with Christina and her sister in front of the violent father. They found shelter with their grandmother in Pennsylvania.
"I still remember how my father used to hit me in the face sometimes when I sang at home," Aguilera told SPIEGEL in 2006. Her father, a US Army sergeant beat her, her mother and sister. These experiences apparently caught up with Aguilera.
Aguilera is donating $ 1 from every ticket she sells at her Las Vegas show, Entertainment Online reports. The organization "The Shade Tree" from Las Vegas, which runs a women's shelter, gave the singer a prize for her engagement.
In her words of thanks, Aguilera burst into tears. She said that domestic violence was disgusting and happened far too often. The topic is very important to her, because she grew up with violence. "I'm also affected," Aguilera said in tears.
Refuge with the grandmother
Her mother, sister and she left in the middle of the night with some clothes in their luggage - and drove across the country to their grandmother for protection. Without her grandmother, she would probably have gone to a women's shelter, so she respects the work of "The Shade Tree" so much.
Her words would come from the heart. Therefore her tears and the glued eyelashes do not matter. "Because there are more important things in life than eyelashes, right?" Said the singer.
Aguilera, 38, sang hits like "Genie In A Bottle" and "What a Girl Wants". She won six Grammys in her career. With her ex-husband Jordan Bratmann she has a son, with her fiance Matthew Rutler a daughter.
