The administrative court in Dresden has confirmed the decision of the city of Ostritz to prohibit a right martial arts event. It serves the "preparation of a political struggle".

The administrative court of Dresden has confirmed the ban on the classified as neo-Nazi martial arts event "Battle of the Nibelung" in the Saxon Ostritz. This was announced by a court spokeswoman.

The organizer had submitted an emergency application against the ban by the city of Ostritz, said the spokeswoman. However, the court rejected this. The martial arts event "Battle of the Nibelung" was to take place next Saturday in Ostritz.

The city justified its ban last Friday by stating that the event posed a threat to public safety and order. The event has no sporting character, but serve the right-wing extremist combat training and thus the "preparation of a political struggle".

The "Battle of the Nibelung" takes place annually since 2013. According to a newspaper report, the Federal Ministry of the Interior recently stated in its response to an FDP inquiry that the event portrays martial artists as role models and a contrast to the "system of hypocrites, failures and weaklings" and carries in its self-image "anti-democratic features" (more on the scene can be found here).

The present court decision may be appealed to the Saxon Higher Administrative Court.
