After the death of a young mother and her baby by a poisoned glucose preparation, the prosecutor investigates two employees of a Cologne pharmacy. The contamination of glucose is due rather to a mistake than deliberate, said the Cologne prosecutor Ulrich Bremer.
The accused had made very extensive statements about their tasks and the processes in the pharmacy. The poisonous substance - lidocaine hydrochloride - was stored in a vessel very similar to glucose. There is currently no evidence of intentional action.
A woman and her baby born from an emergency cesarean section had died of organ failure in September. Previously, the 28-year-old had taken a glucose mixture from the pharmacy in Iölner. The drug was part of a routine test for diabetes in pregnancy.
Among experts, the drug was previously controversial. Also read the interview with an internist and diabetologist.
